In recent years, the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration has been emphasized in the medical field to help doctors, nurses, pharmacists, caregivers, and other professionals quickly understand the patient’s condition and provide seamless treatment and care. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare recommends that each municipality establish a comprehensive community care system by 2025. Meanwhile, in medical practice, since around 2019, they have been asking “How should we proceed with multidisciplinary collaboration?”.
""At around that time, we also began to consider support for community health care, and as part of our information collection efforts, we attended a seminar held by BELLSYSTEM24,” said Mr. Kakinoki.

At the seminar, “MedicalCare STATION (MCS),” a private social networking service for medical and nursing professionals, was introduced as a tool for multidisciplinary collaboration. It can be easily accessed even from smartphones or similar devices and is free of charge to users. The number of users had already grown to about 150,000 at the time, and it was recommended by the Medical Association as a “tool for multidisciplinary collaboration.”

"Sawai Pharmaceutical had two concerns about providing information to healthcare professionals. One was that healthcare professionals involved in home medical care may not be receiving the information they need and the other was that the increase in out-of-hospital prescriptions is reducing opportunities for direct contact with physicians. BELLSYSTEM24 suggested that Sawai Pharmaceutical establish its own community, “Sawai Medical Channel,” to disseminate information with the aim of solving these issues, and this was the driving force behind the implementation of the system.
“Some doctors are not fully informed about generic drugs. We decided to implement MCS in the hope that if we could approach doctors directly through MCS, it would lead to a change in their awareness of generic drugs,” said Mr. Shimazaki."

“Sawai Medical Channel” provides information on new products, seasonal information such as how to manage medicines in the summer and measures against hay fever, and other topics such as the latest news related to medical and nursing care. In terms of operation, Sawai Pharmaceutical selects topics, and BELLSYSTEM24 collects information, creates texts, and distributes them.

One example he gave was planning and holding seminars on the use of MCS. With the aim of increasing the number of registrants, a doctor who spoke at the event introduced how to use it. Mr. Kakinoki commented appreciatively that “showing how doctors use MCS and the scenes where they actually use it for information management and communication with patients made it easier to imagine what MCS is all about, I think. In fact, the number of registrants increased considerably immediately after that.” He also feels that the seminar has helped to raise awareness of MCS and the “Sawai Medical Channel” within the company. Mr. Shimazaki also said, “We already had prepared materials for internal use, but I think seeing videos of MRs actually using the system has deepened the understanding of MRs within the company. MRs, who are consulted by doctors about ‘how to implement comprehensive community medical care and multidisciplinary collaboration?’ now have the option of proposing MCS, which I think is a big step forward.”
